Spiritual Parenting Made Easy!

Angels at Bedtime

Angels at Bedtime

We love angels in our house. We have angel statues. My kids have them in their rooms. We read real life angel stories. We sing angel songs. And recently, my 7 year old has asked me to bless her room after saying goodnight. Interestingly, it resulted in her seeing angels bringing the blessing. I think perhaps she could see them before that, but we didn’t talk about it daily. A little while ago, when it was too late for a long goodnight, she still wanted a blessing and so I sent one ahead of her. The next day she she desired to tell how the night before when she had gotten into bed she saw something. In her own words, as I told her to write down what she’d told me, “By the way, this is secret. When Mummy sent me love from the living room to our bedroom and later on I saw a angel coming into my room and when I was ready then the angel dumped the love on me.” (Spelling corrected for readability!)

Her sister Mary is 10. A little while ago when I prayed to the angels, that night I happened to pray for the fragrance of roses, among other things. Afterward, although Mary hadn’t seen anything she said she’d smelled the roses. Pretty much every night one or both of them notice or feel or see something. I can’t prove it’s real — but I don’t have to — and I feel humbled to be part of it. I don’t see it (yet!), but I just pray sincerely and try to visualize it. I try not to encourage sharing for the sake of showing off, but I simply ask my children if there is anything that they want to share.

Another time, nothing to do with me, Mary told me something she’d seen the night before after a prayer of her own. She was tucked in and the lights were off. She described how she suddenly saw flaming pillars of blue beside her door-frame, which subsequently disappeared and for a couple of seconds, Archangel Michael appeared in the doorway.

I wish I could see angels, but in the meantime, I’m thrilled that my kids are more tuned in than I am. And I’ll keep talking about angels at bedtime – and every other time!

Do you pray to the angels with your kids each night?
