Imagine. Eye-magic. How kids love it.

How about using it, then, for good, for spiritual purposes within your family?

What kind of things can you play? There’s no limit – whatever you can imagine! Here are some ideas to get you started! At Halloween, I have pretended my dressed-up children were angels and after opening the front door to them, invited them in heartily to a feast (actually, it was just a few homemade cookies!). At Christmas I have played many variations of Mary and Joseph and the Wise Men and shepherds, all silly but memorable. In the past I have pretended to have a violet flame swimming pool from the master’s retreat. And just today I pretended to have a Hearts Center conference (They got to take turns being a messenger and giving a message and running the program and, believe it or not, it was their idea). At other times I pretend I have gods and goddesses at my house, addressing them as such (actually in a way I really do, because we all come from God and have that divinity inside!).

I have never seen my kids so engaged as when they are playing. Isn’t that what kids do all day, given free reign? True, today there are a lot of toys to distract, but a lot are actually role play – Lego, dress ups, even video games. Most kids will usually not need a second invitation to imagine, especially if you join in and make it extra fun!

So, next time you’d like to add a dose of spirituality to your family, why not dream up a way to add in a little role play? Your kids will likely remember it for years to come!
